Run for House Board!
Every year elections are open to residents who have resided in the building for at least one semester. This is a great way to be involved in the building and continue to create an inclusive and fun building! Check out the different positions and their duties below.

President

The President shall oversee all House Board functions in accordance with University Housing policies and the Martha Cook Handbook. These include but are not limited to starting grace at Sunday Dinner, running elections, all-house meetings, House Board meetings, recording attendance at meetings, reviewing the constitution annually with the Hall Director, and enforcing the policies of this Constitution. In the absence of another House Board member, the President shall ensure the execution of the responsibilities of that position. The President shall represent residents and act as a liaison between residents and the Board of Governors, by attending Board of Governors meetings and maintaining communication.

Secretary

The Secretary shall record the minutes at each House Board meeting and create and distribute a weekly newsletter for the residents.

Alumnae Relations

The Alumnae Relations Chair (ARC) shall serve as a liaison between the residents and the Alumnae Association through attending Martha Cook Alumnae Association (MCAA) meetings when student input is necessary. The ARC is to work with the Director of Alumnae Relations & Traditions (DART) to coordinate events with the MCAA, such as Dinner for New Residents and Fall & Spring Tea. They are also responsible for designing merchandise to be sold by the MCAA. 

Tea Chair

The Tea Chair shall plan, organize, and execute Friday afternoon teas in consultation with the Director of Alumnae Relations & Traditions and the Dining General Manager. In the event that the Tea Chair is unable to attend a Friday tea, the service chair will preside over tea for that day. In the absence of the service chair, the tea chair will designate a substitute for the entirety of that day’s tea.

 Multicultural Chair

There shall be at least two Multicultural Chairs (MCCs). The Multicultural Chairs shall organize monthly events to promote diversity, inclusion, and social justice for the residents. They shall also plan, organize, and execute International Tea in consultation with the Director of Alumnae Relations & Traditions and the Diversity Peer Educator.

First Party Chair

The First Party Chair(s) shall oversee the planning of the annual First Party Dinner in coordination with the Director of Alumnae Relations & Traditions. They will be responsible for all budgets, invitations, decorations, favors, and other details related to the event and coordinate any performance groups needed for the event. In addition to this, they are expected to report on the progress of the event at House Board meetings. 

Vice President

The Vice-President shall ensure that all food and material ordering is done for all non-traditional or otherwise delegated events for House Board. This includes the management of the Martha Cook Social Calendar and various advertising, including event posters. They will maintain posting boards designated to House Board within the Martha Cook Building. The Vice President shall be responsible for planning events such as Dormal and Welcome Week.

Treasurer

The Treasurer shall manage the accounts for the Martha Cook Student Organization. The Treasurer shall oversee the House Board budget for any House Board-sponsored activity. The Treasurer shall coordinate finances with the Residence Hall Association and send the budget each month on the date outlined by the Vice President of Finances.

Service Chair

The Service Chair shall ensure that all residents sign up and complete their Tea Service requirements in the Martha Cook Building. The Service Chair is to coordinate with the Hall Director or Director of Alumnae Relations & Traditions (DART) in the event that residents do not complete their service requirement for the semester. 

History and Communications Chair

The History & Communications Chair shall maintain all social media websites for the House Board. They shall take photos at House Board events and create the Annual & Cookbook in consultation with the Director of Alumnae Relations & Traditions.

RHA Representative

The two RHA Representatives shall represent residents at weekly Residence Halls Association (RHA) meetings. The RHA Representatives will also present a weekly report back to the House Board about RHA proceedings.
